About
Alex Roddie is a professional editor and award-winning outdoor writer. He is editor of Sidetracked magazine, a contributing editor for Like the Wind, an author with Vertebrate Publishing and gestalten, and he writes features and gear reviews for The Great Outdoors. His writing focuses on mountains and wild places – their wonder and mystery, nature and adventure, but also their culture. Over the years he has worked with brands including Páramo, Montane, LEKI, Haglöfs, Craghoppers, and Rab to deliver sponsored projects for both print and the web.
Alex's editorial career began back in 2014. With experience of working on dozens of book manuscripts, mainly in the outdoor, travel and adventure sectors, his specific areas of expertise include developmental editing and ghostwriting. He has also worked extensively as a copy-editor and proofreader.
Alex has been an active backpacker, mountaineer and hillwalker for over 20 years. Since 2015 he has been a passionate long-distance walker and has completed many classic trails, including the Cape Wrath Trail (summer and winter), Tour of Monte Rosa, Haute Route Pyrenees, Toubkal Circuit, and a fastpacking traverse of the Alps. He is an experienced outdoor gear tester and reviewer, and is often called upon to help judge gear awards – as well as pass product feedback on to brands.
As a speaker, Alex has delivered talks to audiences including the BMC, Sidetracked Creators Tour, and the Kendal Mountain Festival. He is a member of the Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild.
He is based in Scotland with his wife Hannah.
